Honduras, located in the north-central part of Central America, is the second-largest country in Central America, and a little larger than Tennessee in size. Generally mountainous, the country is marked by fertile plateaus, river valleys, and narrow coastal plains. In early 2008 a scouting team went to the city of San Pedro Sula in the northwest part of Honduras to explore ministry opportunities. The local Hondurans are a wonderful and beautiful people but struggle to teach their teens and families about purity, strengthen small struggling churches in the very poor rural areas, and to provide renovations to tiny run-down one-room rural schoolhouses.

There are several opportunities planned for subsequent team participation. Our partner in Honduras is the First Evangelical and Reformed Church in Sula and is the oldest church in San Pedro. The influence it has with other denominations and churches in the community are vast. With them, we have identified several areas of need that will allow Mariners Church to assist in significant and meaningful ways. These include: presenting small business seminars to local businesses, providing presentations to families and school teachers on the value of sexual purity and abstinence for teens, provide leadership training for pastor conferences, provide physical upgrades to small rural schools, and build new houses for pastors in rural areas who currently live in shacks. Join our next team as we serve in Honduras this year or help the team through prayer and support.
